Lock and Leave (L&L) Transparent Door

Security Hardware - 18A

Guidelines:
The L&L door will be the last door exited from a building after all other exterior doors have been secured from the Interior.  This hardware group utilizes controlled key lockup in conjunction with two additional locking mechanisms:  the electric latch panic exit device (22a) and the continuously engaged electromagnetic lock (30).  Upon building lockup, the Cypher lock (4) is deactivated by switch (50) located in key box (48).  The deadbolt (49) is key engaged to complete the lockup sequence.  The RX sensor switch will release the electromagnetic lock.  During normal business hours the guard has override capability of the RX switch.

*NOTES:

  1. Power to the EL99 must be provided by an AES 726 or 926 power supply.  The Continental Cypher lock may be substituted with a DS- Approved automated access system.

  2. For non-forced entry doors, substitute McKinney (or equivalent) non-removable pin hinges (1 and 1/2 pair) for the certified hinge, a Medeco Maxim Deadbolt with removable Medeco core for the ASSA deadbolt, and eliminate the manufacturer's forced entry locks.  The combination lock key container (48) and Toggle Switch (50) are optional.

  3. The Von Duprin Electric Power Transfer (21a) and RX sensor switch (Von Duprin Part #050226) may be ordered as separate items to field upgrade an existing Von Duprin EL99.

  4. Existing EL99 panic exit devices equipped with the dogging feature must have the mechanical housing cover plate reversed, to prevent the dogging of the electric latch.

  5. The RX option is not required on door having automated access readers on both the Interior and exterior side for entry/exit monitoring and anti-passback.  This design requires that the electromagnetic lock be incorporated into the fire alarm system to prevent emergency deactivation.

  6. DS-approved alternative hardware with comparable locking force may be utilized in substitution of the electric locking hardware.  A/FBO/PE/CSM shall be consulted on all projects that are A/FBO funded.

  7. The ASSA deadbolt with key (49) must be procured thru DS/PEL/SEM.

  8. The ASSA deadbolt (49) key is to be securely tethered to the Interior of the Key Lockbox (48).  The tether should be of chain type material and of a thickness sufficient to withstand daily use.
